Yakiniku literally translates to “grilled meat.” All the tables are built around a central grill, tailor-made by SHINPO in Tokyo. Central to the Sumibiya experience is the restaurant's design, executed by leading Singaporean hospitality and leisure designer, David Tokiwa. From the warm lighting to the clean lines and neutral tones, the emphasis is on cosy simplicity. Clever use of contemporary drapes and Japanese lanterns allow the staff to create little private spaces away from the buzz of the main area. In keeping with the interactive approach, the kitchen is a focal point of Sumibiya where the team of expert chefs perform their dazzling ritual of preparation and cooking.
